Quaker Valley Teams Compete 2024 in STEM Design Challenge

On Friday, May 3, fifth grade Edgeworth students Hannah Yocca, Lydia Beichner, Francesca Zeiders, and Emily Custers participated in the STEM design State Championships in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

This fifth-grade team of girls earned a trip to States after placing first in the regional competition in March for their creativity in developing a high-tech farming device. Way to go girls! We are so proud of your hard work!

Teams from Osborne and Edgeworth Elementary Schools participated in the annual STEM Design Challenge event on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.  Students from school districts throughout the region competed in this event sponsored by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.

Each team was challenged to help Pennsylvania farmers by creating an agricultural robot or other type of high-tech farming equipment and building a prototype of their design using only K’Nex.  Each team had to share a blueprint of their prototype and a design notebook; they also had to give a 2-minute presentation.  Judges from Thermo Fisher Scientific scored prototypes and project components, and awards were distributed to the three highest-scoring teams in each division.  Congratulations to the Osborne team, who scored in second place, and the Edgeworth team, who scored in first place, out of 8 total teams in grades 4-5!  The Edgeworth team will be moving on to the state competition in Harrisburg on Friday, May 3.

Congratulations to all of our Quaker Valley STEM Designers!
