The Battle of the Books is a yearly competition. Students in grades 4 and 5 form teams of five students. The students can be from Edgeworth Elementary, Osborne Elementary, Sewickley Academy, St. James School, or home-schooled.

Each team reads 15 books. The book titles are chosen by the Sewickley Public Library and represent different genres. On battle night, the students are asked questions about the books.
