The STEM Design Challenge is an academic competition provided by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit in partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific. Students were challenged to use K’Nex building materials to create an environmentally friendly machine with a “crane” that picked up 3 objects and moved them at least 6 inches across a table.
The Edgeworth team members were Kendra Hines, Emma Johnson, Michael Minnock, Eoin Parnell, Patrick Connors, Ashmita Guragai, and Sam Murray. The Osborne team members were Vivian Cherock, Annalise Happe, Lauren Happe, Clara Herman, Makenna Magness, Laila Pasko, Lily Roberts, and Jayshri Shah.
The final products were judged by a group from Thermo Fisher Scientific on their design, presentation, blueprint, teamwork, and creativity. Awards were given to the top three teams in each division. The first-place team advances to the state competition in May.
