January 11 Schedule Change for QVMS

An email detailing the changes for January 11, 2021, was sent to QVMS families on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. 

Dear QVMS Families,
Beginning on Monday, January 11, 2021, QVMS will resume on-campus instruction.  In addition, teachers will livestream their classroom instruction for those students who will be learning from home on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and/or Friday.  Below you will find important information related to our trimester 2 on-campus and livestreaming instructional plan.  Please read this information carefully in advance of January 11^th.

Asynchronous Wednesdays & Office Hours

Students are required to engage in each of their classes independently each Wednesday.  The day is self-paced, however, the work that is assigned on Wednesday is to be completed by 11:59 PM, unless teachers specifically communicate another due date/time to students.  Asynchronous Wednesdays are not "days off".  All teachers conduct Office Hours on Asynchronous Wednesdays.  Office Hour Zoom links are posted on each teachers' Schoology page.  Students may join a teacher's Office Hours at their own discretion, or they may be directed to attend Office Hours by their teacher, counselor, or principal based on attendance and/or academic need.  Office Hours will be conducted at the following times:

Bell Schedule for Trimester 2:  to be followed by all students (Option 1 and 2)

*When Livestreaming from home, students must log in to Period 1 at 8:00 AM. 

Material Distribution:

Option 2 students (remote) must pick up Trimester 2 instructional materials from the middle school on Wednesday, January 13^th between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.  Students do not need to schedule a pick-up time.  When entering the middle school to retrieve materials, masks are required.  All materials will be available in the auditorium and will be pre-packaged in paper bags marked with individual student names. 

In addition, Option 2 students (remote) must return any instructional materials from Trimester 1 to the middle school on Wednesday, January 13^th.  Please place the Trimester 1 materials in a disposable bag and clearly mark the bag with the student’s first and last name.  The parents or guardians of students who do not return instructional materials are required to replace lost items.  QVMS administration and office staff will be in communication with individual families regarding lost items.  

Health and Safety Reminders:

In order to keep all students and staff members safe, the following expectations are to be adhered to by all on-campus students:
            1. Masks must be worn at all times (exception – lunch)
            2. Hands must be sanitized upon arrival to school
            3. Hands must be sanitized when leaving/entering classrooms

4. Food/drinks/materials are not to be shared between students
5. When traveling in the halls, students are to stay to the righthand side

Additionally, it is vital that parents/guardians keep their children home if they are sick.  Reporting positive COVID-19 test results to the school nurse is also of critical importance.  We must work together to keep one another safe and healthy in order to maintain on-campus instruction.

Transportation Reminders:
Car riders are not to be dropped off/picked up on Harbaugh Street.  All traffic must approach the middle school using Peebles Street.  Car riders must be dropped off on Peebles Street, and then wait at the crosswalk for directions from Officer Watts. Students may not be dropped off at the middle school any earlier than 7:45 a.m.  Students must be in the school by 8:00 a.m.

Livestreaming Safety Guidelines

To slow the spread of COVID-19, the high school and middle school will be using a hybrid learning model to reduce the number of students in the classrooms. Reduced student numbers are so physical distancing can be maintained. Beginning in January 2021, the use of livestreaming from the classrooms will be a tool that Quaker Valley teachers will employ to teach the entire class at the same time. Students at home will be required to attend class live along with their in-school peers through livestreaming technology. While this tool is expected to enhance learning in the hybrid model, there are aspects of online safety that the district will monitor and procedure everyone must follow to ensure that the learning environment is as safe as possible. One such measure is that the livestreamed classes (in general) will not be recorded. Recordings will only occur with building administrators' permission, and the content will be secured on a password-protected website that only authorized users can access. Additionally, to protect student safety during livestreaming sessions, students must adhere to the following guidelines. Failure to follow these guidelines may be cause for disciplinary consequences.
