At its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 15, the Quaker Valley School Board unanimously approved the selection of PJ Dick as the construction manager for the District’s new high school project. This unanimous decision represents a critical step forward as the District moves from planning to implementation in its effort to build a transformative new high school for the Quaker Valley community.
Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Pittsburgh, PJ Dick is one of Pennsylvania’s premier construction firms, widely recognized for its work on large-scale educational, healthcare, and civic projects throughout the region. The firm brings extensive experience in managing complex construction efforts with a focus on collaboration, safety, sustainability, and innovation.
“We are pleased to welcome PJ Dick as our construction manager and to move forward into this next phase of building a new high school for the Quaker Valley community, said Quaker Valley Superintendent Tammy A. Andreyko, Ed.D. “This project has been years in the making and selecting such a highly respected and experienced partner brings us one step closer to turning our vision into reality. The firm’s expertise, integrity, and willingness to collaborate made them the perfect fit for our approach to constructing this new facility.”
Mr. Charlie Gauthier, Director of Facilities shared, “The process of selecting a construction manager was thoughtful and guided by what’s best for the District as a whole. We evaluated several highly qualified firms and ultimately selected PJ Dick because of their track record in delivering complex construction projects on time and on budget.”
With this appointment, PJ Dick will begin working alongside the district’s administration, architectural firms, engineers, and project consultants to refine plans, develop construction timelines, and manage the day-to-day operations of the high school’s construction.
“PJ Dick is excited to be selected as the Construction Manager for this next step in building and creating the future home for the students and residents of Quaker Valley School District,” said Project Executive John Taormina. “We look forward to working with the District and Design Team, and forming a partnership to assist with constructability details and determining the most cost-effective approach to a timely completion. As construction commences, PJ Dick will provide the daily on-site management to endeavor to ensure the construction meets the design plans and specifications.”
The new high school project, designed to meet the future-focused needs of students while maximizing opportunities for sustainability and innovation, has been years in the making. Beyond its impact on education, the new high school project will bring long-term benefits to the broader Quaker Valley community. Thoughtful site development plans include improved stormwater management and erosion control measures that will enhance environmental sustainability and reduce local runoff issues.
Additionally, planned upgrades to the intersection of Camp Meeting Road and Beaver Street will improve traffic flow and safety for motorists, pedestrians, and school buses. The investment in modern infrastructure and public amenities is also expected to have a positive effect on local property values, contributing to increased real estate values across the region.
“Selecting the right construction manager is one of the most important decisions we’ve made in this project, and I’m confident that PJ Dick will be an outstanding partner as we enter the construction phase,” said Mr. Gianni Floro, Quaker Valley School Board Facilities Committee Chairperson. “I also want to recognize and thank our entire team of project professionals—BSHM and Bohlin Cywinski Jackson architects, Phillips and Associates Geotechnical Engineering, our program manager, Jon Thomas of Thomas & Williamson, and others for their continued collaboration and commitment. Together, this team is laying the foundation, both literally and figuratively, for a high school that will serve generations of Quaker Valley students and families.”
