The Quaker Valley High School Math League has wrapped up another standout season, continuing its tradition of excellence in mathematics competitions. For the seventh consecutive year, the team claimed its section championship and earned third place overall in Western Pennsylvania at the 2024–2025 Mathematics Council of Western Pennsylvania (MCWP) Team Finals, held April 15 at Trinity Christian School.
The five students who represented Quaker Valley at the MCWP Finals were Sienna Albano, Ryan Steinfurth, Henry Zutter, Luca Albano, and Evelyn Zutter.
The full team, which contributed to the season's success through six months of rigorous competition, also included Sasha Zupanc, Lea Mauer, Kate Steinfurth, Ruth Whitacre, Rachel Bartels, Emmanuel Bayne, Jay Olawaiye, and Willy Winnowski.
Senior Henry Zutter was also recognized for his outstanding individual performance during the regular season, scoring 33 out of a possible 36 points. This achievement placed him as the third-highest individual scorer in all of Western Pennsylvania.
Math League is a long-standing interscholastic competition that brings together approximately 40 high schools from across Western Pennsylvania. The season runs from October through March and includes monthly contests featuring both individual and team problem-solving rounds. Students are tested on topics across the high school math curriculum—Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, and Pre-Calculus—with all work done by hand, without the aid of calculators or other technology.
While the league’s founding date remains uncertain, Math League has engaged generations of students since the 1980s. At Quaker Valley, the program continues to grow in both size and success.
