Girls on the Run
Osborne Girls on the Run is an after school program, held in the Spring for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls, that uses the power of physical activity, life lessons, and positive mentoring to “prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living”. Through interactive activities including walking and running, playing games, and discussing important issues, girls learn how to celebrate being themselves and how to avoid the “Girl Box”. The “Girl Box” is a place where girls are valued more for their outward appearance than their character, which often results in low self-esteem and distorted body image. Girls on the Run focuses on educating girls about developing a healthy self-image and providing a safe space where they can say, “I belong just the way I am”.
Our goal is to empower all girls to:
- Have a strong sense of identity
- Give and receive support from a group
- Stand up for themselves in a healthy manner
- Have a healthy body image
- Understand the importance of their community
- Complete a 5k run/walk event

Girls on the Run is back, and we couldn’t be more excited to empower girls to become their best, most confident self! Girls on the Run is all about building strong, resilient girls who can face any challenge with courage and kindness. Through our fun and inspiring lessons, your girl will not only stay active but also develop the social and emotional skills that will last a lifetime.
Through our program, 3rd-5th grade girls come together to explore important life lessons, including:
Standing up for themselves and others by being a “standbyer” instead of a bystander while practicing empathy, inclusion, and acceptance.
Girls on the Run is more than just a running program – it’s a community that helps girls connect, grow, and support each other. By signing your girl up, you’re giving her the opportunity to be part of a positive, empowering space where she can build lasting friendships and grow in confidence.
Over the course of the 10-week program starting March 3rd, your girl will meet with her team 2 times per week to explore research-based lessons that incorporate physical activity in a fun and engaging way. Together, they’ll develop healthy habits, stay active, and celebrate their achievements every step of the way.
Our team will meet: Monday/Wednesday from 3:45 - 5:00pm at Osborne Elementary. The season runs for 10 weeks, culminating in a Celebratory 5K at The Waterfront in Homestead, PA on Sunday, May 18th.
Volunteer Coaches are also needed for the season. If you'd like to volunteer to coach and be part of this extraordinary program at Osborne, we'd love to have you! Please contact Mrs. Jamie Chappell with any questions [email protected]
